I spent a couple of hours speaking about spiritual reality with an American in an Irish bar yesterday afternoon.
He was agnostic but of course didn’t use that phrase (“I’m just trying to figure it all out”).
I sought to reframe the concept of “going to heaven when you die” with a kingdom paradigm which of course was news to him (and I think good news at that).
The future hope that we Christians have to offer is not so much “pie in the sky when you die” but experience of the Kingdom in fullness of which we now know only in part.
Since the centrepiece of kingdom is the King - it is nothing less than to encounter the King of Kings in all His majestic and darkness expelling glory.
Heaven is the kingdom.
Heaven is the presence of the King.
That is all and that is enough.
