Greg Downes is the Director of Kingfisher Ministries and has had the joy of preaching on all six (inhabited) continents, but not yet to the penguins of Antarctica.

He is an evangelist and practical theologian and gifted and humorous communicator whose talks are an unusual mix of biblical exegesis, story telling, theology and kingdom testimony.

Greg is the Theologian and Missioner of St Mary's Cogges, Witney.  He was until recently the Dean of the Wesley Centre at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University.

Greg Downes

About Greg.

Greg Downes is a passionate follower of Jesus dedicated to using his life and gifts to extend Christ’s Kingdom.

He is an evangelist, practical theologian and ordained minister of the Church of England.

Since being born in Lancaster he has held a variety of posts including being a school teacher, auxiliary nurse, youth worker, curate, paper boy, prison chaplain, head chorister, fairground ride operative, champagne waiter, teaching pastor and security guard.

He has served as study assistant to John Stott, Tutor in Evangelism at London School of Theology, Evangelist-in-Residence at St Andrew’s Chorleywood, Chaplain at Pembroke College, Oxford University, the Oxford Pastorate Chaplain (based at St Aldate’s Church) and the Theologian & Missioner at St Michael le Belfrey York.

He was until recently Director of Ministerial Training and Dean of the Wesley Centre for Missional Engagement at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University.

Since 1st January 2022, he has been the Director of Kingfisher Ministries which exists to equip the church to fulfill her Great Commission. His passion is to lead people to Christ and to equip others to do the same, as well as serve as a consultant to churches and mentor and coach to missional leaders.

He is married to Tamie, a Doctor, and they have two young daughters and make their home in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds.

Ultimately we believe that it’s only when people encounter Jesus Christ that their lives can be changed, and they themselves will become agents of transformation.

To quote John Wesley “I believe in changing the world the old fashioned way - one soul at a time”. Kingfisher Ministries want to leave a legacy of not just doing evangelism, but training others who will train others to do it.

We have a passion for investing in leaders and emerging leaders mainly because some incredible leaders took the trouble to invest in us - and that was probably the single biggest factor in helping grow as a disciple of Christ and an emerging leader.

Sadly there is such a deficit these days of mentors of integrity and people of godly influence both inside and outside the church.

Younger people are crying out for people from the older generation who are experienced and mature to be a guide and encouragement to them.
