Miercurea-Ciuc

Headed off into Miercurea-Ciuc and “followed the music” and found myself in a bar where there was traditional Hungarian 🇭🇺 folk music & dancing. Chatted to Róbert, who had just got married and was expecting a daughter. He told me he grew up in the Hungarian Reformed church as an ethnic Hungarian born in Romania. He had been confirmed in church as a boy but didn’t go to church regularly but just once or twice a year.

He said he believed in God but didn’t have time to go to church or to read the Bible or to pray I said to him: “I suspect it’s because you don’t really love Jesus”. He seemed startled by this comment. I proceeded: “I do believe at the end of the day we prioritise that which we love. You love your wife and make time for her, you love your friends you make time for them, you love your hobbies you make time for them”.

He looked intrigued. I then quoted CS Lewis: “Christianity if not true is of no importance, if it is true it is of ultimate importance - the one thing that it cannot be is moderately important”.

I then said: “You say you go to church a couple of times a year - I suggest you don’t bother unless you want to live completely for Christ”.

He seemed shocked by this ultimatum and this was an opportunity to explain to him how true Christianity was simply a friendship with God through Jesus Christ. I offered him to pray to fully surrender his life to Christ. After the initial shock that I should suggest he do this in a crowded bar he agreed and prayed to receive Christ and commit his life to Him.

As he did so he said he experienced a sense of peace & presence which he said he thought was the Holy Spirit.
