It was a privilege to preach the Gospel last night to 400+ 11 to 18 year olds in Glasgow.
I threw out the net at the end and there were 29 responses indicating people had prayed to receive Christ.
After my preach, we went back into sung worship and I went to the back of the church.
One young man (aged 16) spoke to me to say that he had raised his hand to pray to receive Christ.
He told me he was from a non Christian home and had never been to church, but had been invited along after serving a community service order.
He told me he responded because he didn’t know it was possible to have hope and that’s what he really wanted in his life (the title of the talk was: ‘Sharing hope in a hopeless world’).
He informed me that when he prayed the public prayer at the end, he felt a warmth in his chest and a sense of “comfort”. I asked him if he knew that in the Bible, God revealed himself as “the God of all comfort”. He did not since he had never read the Bible, I showed him the verse from one 2 Corinthians 1:3 (below) and he seemed shocked and photographed it on his phone. I gave him a speedy 101 of discipleship and informed him that he needed to learn to pray, read the Bible and connect with community. I showed him a free Bible app (with all the major translations on it) and he downloaded it there and then on his smart phone.
I offered to pray for him and again he said he sensed the presence of God and was physically moved. When I finished praying, he said that he was amazed and confused as I seemed to know things about him that I couldn’t possibly have known.
We’d been chatting for half an hour and the last worship song was announced so we went back into the gathering and he disappeared into the crowd.
