A true story : Greg the Evangelist and the Ethiopian taxi driver
I caught an Uber last night from Woodbridge to Annandale in Virginia USA. 🇺🇸
It was about a 40 minute ride and I got chatting to the taxi driver.
He was a 31 year-old Ethiopian who had been in the United States for about six years.
I asked him if he knew the story of Philip and the Ethiopian from in the Bible.
He said that whilst he was from a Coptic Orthodox background, he didn’t read the Bible and didn’t think he was a true Christian though he believed in Jesus and Mary.
I told him that the Coptic Orthodox Church of Ethiopia claims to be the oldest in the world because it was founded when the Ethiopian eunuch became a Christian through Philip and went back to his home country and took Christianity with him.
He was intrigued.
I asked him if he would like me to read him the story out loud as he dove me (in his chariot 😜)
He said: “yes, but I don’t think I will understand it”
(that’s honestly what he said!).
“Don’t worry” I reassured him “I can explain it to you”
I read him the passage from Acts 8:26-40 out loud explaining it to him as we went and weaving in the Gospel as I spoke. At this point, I said to him: “I’m Philip and you’re the Ethiopian”.
By now we had reached my destination and as we were parked up, after paying, I asked him if he wanted to pray to receive Christ.
He said he did, and he was filled with joy and exclaimed: “ I feel Jesus! I feel Jesus!”
He said he wished that he could have taken me by a longer route so he could have had more time in the car to talk.
He went on his way rejoicing as I disappeared into my friend’s house. 🤓
